Fulluna

Do angels nibble on nebulae or sweeten
their clouds with comets?
Do demons suffer from dark hunger?

When the ocean is at rest,
When the lake is at a lull,
I want to take silver suns
and make a cake of stars
and feed it to the moon...
until she's full.

fin-ally

the child that i thought was grown that i
thought had gotten through gotten past
gotten over...the same child i mourned the
loss of and that was buried so many years
ago in a field of withered clover, the child
whose memory, thought, and feelings i've
carried for so many long years.

his bones still break, his eyes still shed
tears. the child that i thought was grown
that i thought had runaway so far in my past
that he could be forgotten, the child that
was left alone...his scars can still be seen
his wounds still bleed his heart still aches
his cries can still be heard. the child i
thought was grown, has finally come back home.

Union

Shapes coalesce into heads, tails, and spines in the sky:
Clouds float by, faint distant wisps of white,
Mortals below struggle with their casual indifference.
Sometimes you ask me to tell you one thing
That you do not know about me...
Once in a while my eyes shift from blue to green.
God gives me eyes like the sea to see
Things that are both wild and beautiful...like your smile.
With those eyes I see us as all substance and no style
Like silhouettes at sunset
Dark jewels set in red and amber bands...
Then we touch lips to lips, mouth to mouth,
A maze of fever and faith with no way out.
A sometimes gentle joining empties minds as hearts swell
We are like a watch with a dead battery: once a part of time
Now not...something less and something more.
Awash in the water of a cove, wet with snow and dream,
We watch history...the ebb and flow of the timestream.
The tide runs forward up the beach then back out of reach.
Then further back to a place of peace, to Eden.
The face of the deep reflects darkness before the sun,
Is this what we are...after we start and before we are done?
Are we God's image when we are one?

Ungentle

Wind brushes hair from my ear when spirits visit and say:
"With eyes open wide and steady steps walk the Way."
I stand along this wide plain, alone with my passion, my pain...
And I along the path and plain laid my sorrow by
The road in a ditch filled with gravel, a shallow grave...
God opens her mouth and breathes life into me:
All creation, inspiration, and the sea...
She is every Athena, Helen, and Isis.
All of this and more She gave:
A door, a window, a pen, a key...
And in my widsom I put the walls up myself;
And seeking safety built a prison, a hell.
So she lets go of Her Son and reaches for me--
Answering my unsaid prayers and unspoken spells.
Her Holy Spirit convicts me connects me to Her mercy:
A place where my sins are forgiven chains falling
Off my hands and feet...can you hear Her speak?
Church bells ring a mighty wind moving through chimes
Her Voice sears you from a whisper to a cyclone calling
We are all the same, all ashamed at times, sometimes alone.
God has all the answers, all the peace, we seek...
While we wait...shuffling our feet...stalling.
Angels wait for us to find Her Grace...
They wait at the door of the cave, His grave
To tell us "He is risen" and rolled away the stone.
The darker nights make the day seem brighter.
Trading faith for fear makes it seem kind of real
When I stop, let go, and let God, my burden feels lighter.
Talk to Her, pray.
All the long day walk the narrow Way,
And at night drop and kneel...

Four, Two, and One

Wick and wax one candle winks with one flame
Lighting up a room dim in gray and darkness
Like my face brightening at the mention of your name
Ignited by a spark from an excited touch and caring caress...

We wade in water wiped white with wind
Watched by blue eyes and those of a blue-gold dragonfly
Splash and swim in this summer day without end
Hold me with wet arms under a deep blue sky...

I only step away to kick rocks out of our path
Along this road we walk never lonely or alone
My past wears away like castles made of shifting sand
Being replaced by what our love builds on stone...

Wind gusts bending bare branches as it blows
Snow drifting as winter begins a soft season
We warm each other with whispers while candles glow
As we begin this year with more faith and less reason...

All of this beginning with just one kiss
These are the elements of us, of our world
Too amazing to believe, too real to dismiss
Arms wrapped hands holding legs wound toes curled...

For the World to See

His burdens lift and sorrows sift when he begins to pray.
His sorrows sift and burdens lift whenever he bends to pray.
He is forgiven for giving weight to what they might say...
and has Faith as something solid, a ledge
on the cliffside of his life, keeping him safe...
and Hope strong like the hands of God that keep demons at bay;
he is being molded, shaped by fires that show gold by burning clay,
and he wonders at being able to see so clearly
on such a rainy day.

January

Winter wind begins to sift through leaves:
The ones by the street more accepting of change,
the others still hanging on to the trees.
Though I long to fly...to say soft sobbing goodbyes and fly
i am still hanging on to something;
Some subtle truth, some vestige of the spirit
that is scared of being dead
made strong by a slender green thread.
