Union

Shapes coalesce into heads, tails, and spines in the sky:
Clouds float by, faint distant wisps of white,
Mortals below struggle with their casual indifference.
Sometimes you ask me to tell you one thing
That you do not know about me...
Once in a while my eyes shift from blue to green.
God gives me eyes like the sea to see
Things that are both wild and beautiful...like your smile.
With those eyes I see us as all substance and no style
Like silhouettes at sunset
Dark jewels set in red and amber bands...
Then we touch lips to lips, mouth to mouth,
A maze of fever and faith with no way out.
A sometimes gentle joining empties minds as hearts swell
We are like a watch with a dead battery: once a part of time
Now not...something less and something more.
Awash in the water of a cove, wet with snow and dream,
We watch history...the ebb and flow of the timestream.
The tide runs forward up the beach then back out of reach.
Then further back to a place of peace, to Eden.
The face of the deep reflects darkness before the sun,
Is this what we are...after we start and before we are done?
Are we God's image when we are one?
