as i languish in laughter angels climb up
Jacob's ladder. i hold the cup hands tremble,
bear witness to the Last Supper and after,
drink deep from the Chalice, the Grail
(how blood makes clean makes no sense)
see the devil's plans dissembling,
prophecy full of power and ectasy
from One come the words, 'I thirst.'
Hades slides further, bad becomes worse.
life bought with blood, bone, sweat, tears
even the vinegar and wine He swilled...but
the first shall be last, and the last first.
God is a deaf uninterested waitress
bringing you redemption, mercy,
with a side order of chaos and creation.
we receive what we do not understand,
the bill has been paid by the Son of Man.
the peace found is almost like joy...
and i languish in the laughter
as angels climb down Jacob's ladder.
