A Stolen Moment

Rain slides sideways in the storm
Like a kiss from the wind
the raindrop settles next to my face
blown by a soft summer breeze
the kind of breeze that brings
with it lightning and thunder.

I think that raindrops must
feel safety in numbers--
why else would they fall
all around the faces,
the cheeks of those
that they would like to meet.

The light drizzle and mist
of June rain steams
when it hits the hard hot ground.
But the rain gains force
as it swells from clouds
that hide the sun.

Another raindrop
strikes my face just
below my eye,
and i pull my
jacket just
a little tighter
as i walk down the street
and wonder.
